Constables face corruption charges

Between last Thursday and Saturday, three district constables were arrested and charged by the Anti-Corruption Branch for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act, following sting operations.

It is reported that District Constable Orion Maxwell, of the Hanover Division, was arrested and charged following reports made to the branch last Thursday.

Reports indicate that, following a tour of duty, issued traffic tickets were found in his possession.

He was later charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice after a ruling by the director of public prosecutions.

A day later, another district constable from Hanover was arrested after being accused of collecting $10,000 from a motorist who had breached the Road Traffic Act.

On Saturday, a district constable assigned to the Revenue Protection Depart-ment was arrested after being accused of corruptly soliciting more than $30,000, over several weeks, from an accused in relation to a court case.

Files have been prepared and submitted to the director of public prosecutions for a ruling in the cases.
