A mother and her 16-year-old daughter were remanded when they appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, after appearing to answer allegations that they took turns to stomp on a woman clutching her one-month-old baby.

The Crown alleged that Rosemarie Lee-Stewart and her daughter Ashley Stewart, charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, inflicted harm to the complainant at a party held on Sandy Park Road, Kingston, recently.

It is alleged that after a brief verbal altercation, the mother and daughter approached the complainant and proceeded to pull her to the ground as she held her child.

The complainant alleged that on the night in question: "Me drop pon the ground and them step up pon me and the baby."

In court, she unveiled an article of clothing, a small pink headgear which she claimed her baby was wearing on the night of the attack. The headgear was visibly soiled all over with what appeared to be dirt.

"Your Honour, I was the one who dragged her. I hold her throat ... afterwards my daughter intervened, your Honour," Lee-Stewart said after pleading 'guilty with explanation' to the charges.

Unsettled by the reports, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey said "Unu stay with me for the night. Remanded until the 6th, Bob Marley birthday."
