Man charged for setting bed ablaze

The mother of the 19-year-old man who was charged after he set ablaze a bed and clothing, begged for her son and called off the case in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Richard Foster from Riverton Meadows, Kingston 11 was set to be sentenced. however, his mother told the court that she is giving her son another chance.

It is alleged that on the day of the incident, Foster and his mother, Valerie Daley, got into a dispute, when the accused threatened to burn the house down.

Some time later, she was alerted to the smell of smoke coming from her son's bedroom and went to investigate.

When she entered the room, she saw Foster's bed, along with clothing, engulfed in flames. Foster was then seen running from the house. She managed to extinguish the fire with water.

After consulting with his mother about his conduct, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered the accused remanded.

Foster was charged with attempted arson and given $80,000 bail with surety, but he was later taken into custody after his mother told the court that he was giving more trouble.
