UTech produces first set of media graduates

The newly introduced Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Communication Arts and Technology programme at the, University of Technology (Utech) had its first cohort of graduates recently.

The graduating class of 2013 consisted of about 30 students. The programme currently has approximately 100 students enrolled.

Hector Wheeler, associate vice-president of Advancement at Utech, suggested that the university's administration has formulated the programme in such a way that students are introduced to key concepts necessary in moulding them to successfully pursue a career in media.

"These students can not only be groomed to seek employment, but groomed to encourage entrepreneurship in the field," he noted as he shared that the students have performed impressively

The first graduating class with a BA in Communication Arts and Technology are thrilled to not only be the first, but to also be the change in the local media landscape.

Twenty-three-year-old Orane Hart is one such student. He is the first and only male to have graduated from the programme. He was awarded with a BA in Communication Arts and Technology with second-class honours.

"It feels good to know that I was among the first cohort of graduates from BCAT. A couple of us as graduates have taken it up on ourselves to form our own media company," said Hart.
