Four illegal firearms, ammo seized

The police seized four illegal firearms and several rounds of ammunition in separate incidents over the weekend.

The Marine police, carried out an operation in Portland Cottage, Clarendon on Friday, which resulted in the seizure of guns, drugs and more than 100 assorted rounds of ammunition. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.

Reports are that the officers were in the area looking for two fishermen who were reported missing when they stumbled upon two 28-foot canoes in a mangrove.

The police found 600 pounds of compressed ganja, 121 assorted rounds of ammunition, two shotguns, one Glock 40 pistol, one Bersa 9mm pistol and three cellular phones.

In the other incident on Saturday, several rounds of ammunition were seized at the Ocho Rios bus park in St Ann. Two persons were detained in relation to the incident.

The Ocho Rios police said a team was on operation in the area, when a vendor's stall was searched.

Six shotgun rounds and two .45 rounds were seized.

Both incidents are being investigated and the search for the fishermen continues.
