Kartel and co-accused verdict set for next month

Vybz Kartel and his four co-accused will have to wait until next month for a verdict in their case now before the court.

Justice Lennox Campbell had planned to start his summation to the jury at 10 a.m. tomorrow, but was informed that the jurors could not sit.

On Monday, the court was told by the foreman that the jurors could only sit in the afternoon sessions yesterday and today.

Yesterday, Campbell asked the jurors if any of them were going to be unavailable next week.

quite dedicated

One of the jurors indicated that she had some medical tests to do on Monday and Tuesday next week.

Campbell then told the jurors they have been quite dedicated. He asked them not to discuss the case with anyone and return to court at 10 a.m. next Thursday.

The trial has been going on since November 18, and is said to be one of the longest cases to be tried in the Home Circuit Court.

Yesterday, the defence lawyers completed their addresses to the 11-member jury. One of the jurors was excused last month.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, is charged jointly with fellow entertainer Shawn Campbell, also called Shawn Storm; Kahira Jones; Shane Williams; and André St John.

They are charged with the murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams, of Waterford, St Catherine. He was allegedly beaten to death on August 16, 2011, at Kartel's Havendale house over two missing guns.
