Percy Sledge

Legendary singer/songwriter Percy Sledge was quietly slipped into Jamaica on Wednesday as he prepares to perform at the R&B and Reggae Concert set for tomorrow (Saturday, March 1, 2014).

The concert that will also feature performances from recording artistes John Holt, Noddy Virtue, George Nooks, AJ Brown, Gem Myers, Jodian Pantry among others, will be hosted on the lawns of Jamaica College.

The legendary singer, along with his wife and daughter, were greeted by a selected pack of media personnel at the Four Seasons Hotel recently.

Percy Sledge is known for classics such as When A Man Loves A Woman, Take Time to Know Her, Cover Me, Warm and Tender Love among a slew of others.

According to Frankie Campbell, Fab 5 band member and part of the production team, the event will commence at 8 p.m. sharp.

"We are starting the show on time and we want the media to stress this. Percy will be on-stage before midnight and we are not in the whole-night thing. It's going to be a fantastic show and the young people should come out and learn something new," Campbell said.

Percy Sledge is credited as scoring the first Gold Record for Atlantic Records in the 1980s with the hit record When A Man Loves A Woman. Sledge is also a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee.
