OLDER SISTERS BURN 9-Y-O - Charged by cops

A grievous and endangering act carried out by two sisters to their younger sibling has caused condemnation in a St Andrew community, after they set fire to a spoon and used the heated metal to cause serious burns.

Information reaching THE STAR is that the sisters, whose names have not been released, will face the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court soon to answer to the charge of cruelty to a minor.

Our news team was told that the victim is nine years old.

Reports are that on the day of the incident, the older sisters were reprimanding their younger sibling for allegedly being disobedient.

"Dem never did afi do the little girl that, but if a dem sister dem do so, weh dem woulda do somebody else? Mi never expect that from dem, nobody round here nuh feel pleased bout it," said a woman from the area.

THE STAR gathered that a hot spoon was used to burn the child after she was held down by her sisters.

Another resident said: "As far as me hear, dem really cruel fi hot di spoon and burn har up. She moved during the burning and it stretch across her legs ... the marks are there to show."

Police in charge of the area were tight-lipped, declining to give details of the incident because of the sensitive nature of the offence.

Confirmation of the incident and subsequent arrest however, came by way of a senior officer within the St Andrew North Police Division with knowledge of the investigation.
