UWI's carnival season designed for FUN

Carnival fans will have a lot to look forward to as this year's UWI Carnival calendar rolls out.

This year, the University of the West Indies (UWI) Carnival will team up with the University of Technology (UTech) and Island Mas Carnival for some events.

The season officially got started yesterday (Thursday, March 13) at Integration Thursdays, held at the UWI Mona Bowl following UWI's Sports Day.

The weekend will kick off with the annual energy-pumping J'Ouvert at UWI Sand Pit on Friday, March 14, and patrons should be thrilled by DJs Smoke, Arif, Hypnosis, Richie Ras and Ice.

Ring Road, the icing on UWI's carnival cake, will feature all major routes on the Mona campus come Saturday, March 15. This promises to be a vast spectacle of colour and entertainment and will feature music from the likes of Kurt Riley, GJ Spinn, Aftershock, DJ Cue, Richie Ras, among others.

The season's activities will conclude on March 16 with Sunday's staging of the annual Carnival Atlantis Exotic Beach party powered by Skyy Vodka at Sugarman's beach, Portmore.

The beach party will commence at 4 p.m. sharp and will feature performances from fresh and hype Trinidadian soca artistes Lyrical and 5 Star Akil.

According to UWI's Cultural Entertainment and Affairs Chairperson/promoter Miguel 'Gramma Zone' Reid, this year's carnival will carry a variety of attractions to keep the audience occupied.

Tickets for this year's carnival are available for purchase at UTech Student Union, Spot, and The UWI Guild Office.

UWI's carnival season is sponsored by Appleton Jamaica Rum, Red bull, LIME, and Pepsi Light, among others.

Patrons attending UWI's events during the season are advised to think and drink responsibly and must be 18 years or older to consume alcohol.
