Phone snatcher gets three months

A man accused of holding up a woman, stealing her Samsung cellular phone, was sentenced to three months in prison in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

He is Shanrick Nugent, who pleaded guilty, with explanation, to the robbery with aggravation charge.

The court heard that on the day in question, the complainant, approached by Nugent, who was armed with a knife, was forced to give up her Samsung Galaxy cellular phone under duress.

"Through certain necessaries, ma'am, I just got into a youth programme that the Matalon dem have," Nugent explained.

"You have certain necessaries and yu come turn thief? How many times yu get in trouble already?" Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked the accused.

"I came here last year for a rape charge ma'am," Nugent replied.

"Yu going to do three months for the lady's phone," RM Pusey remarked.

The accused man was sentenced to three months in prison. A finger- print order was also made.
