Man charged in motor vehicle scam

A man who claimed he could secure a motor vehicle for another man but who is accused of using the money, was remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Charged with fraudulent conversion is Gary Brown, who was fingerprinted and ordered remanded until March 18.

The Crown alleges that on two occasions in 2012, Brown conned the complainant out of $450,000 to secure the motor vehicle. On August 17, the complainant gave the accused $200,000 and sometime in September, $250,000.

It was revealed in court that on one of the occasions, Brown had pretended to call the automotive dealership from which the car was to be obtained. He also told the complainant that they were going to start the motor vehicle transaction process; however, he did not furnish the complainant with a receipt.

The complainant reported the matter and Brown was eventually charged.
