Cops probe suspected hotel larceny
Chad Bryan, STAR Writer

An incident of suspected larceny at a hotel in Negril, Westmoreland, is now the subject of an investigation by detectives at the Negril Police Station.

The police are reporting that sometime between 10 p.m. Sunday and 6:30 a.m. Monday, foreign guests at the hotel had left their room door open when a number of personal items went missing.

"I wouldn't classify this as a break-in. There were some guests staying there and they left the room door open and some items were discovered missing from the room. It wasn't a robbery. They just woke up and missed the things from the room," a member of the Negril police stated.

The officer continued that personal items including cell phones were discovered in a bag close to where the incident was reported to have taken place.

When questioned if hotels in the Negril area were the scene of other such incidents, a senior officer stated that they happened infrequently and therefore, there was no cause for alarm.

"They happen every now and again. Guests will leave their rooms open and then property is missed from the room. I wouldn't see it as something alarming or out of the way," the senior cop said.

The management of the hotel did not offer much on the incident and stated that nothing had taken place.

"Nothing happened last night. It was just a misunderstanding," they said.
