The US citizen who drowned in Negril, Jamaica, on the weekend was awaiting trial for vehicular homicide in Pennsylvania, THE STAR has learnt.

Dead is 43-year-old David McCormick of Jeannette, USA.

According to www.abc27.com, a western Pennsylvania man who drowned while swimming off the coast of a popular Jamaican resort town was awaiting trial for vehicular homicide in Pennsylvania.

His attorney, Kenneth Burkley, of Greensburg, confirmed that McCormick was living in Jeannette.

McCormick had been charged with homicide by vehicle and driving under the influence following an October 9 crash that killed Francis G Cossick, 66, in Murrysville.

barred from driving

Burkley also said McCormick was barred from driving while awaiting trial, but he was unaware of any other travel restrictions he had.

McCormick's trial was scheduled for August.

Meanwhile, the Negril police reported that 43-year-old David McCormick, of Garnein Lane in Pennsylvania, is suspected to have drowned at sea while at a popular hotel on Saturday.

The hotel, however, denied this allegation, stating that McCormick drowned while at another hotel located next door their property, while hanging out with friends.

Reports are that McCormick was swimming when he got into difficulties and drowned before help could reach him.
