Kern Spencer, personal assistant freed of charges

After six years on trial, former Junior Energy Minister, Kern Spencer, and his former personal assistant, Colleen Wright, were freed of fraud and money laundering charges when they appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey upheld a no-case submission by defence lawyers which ended the case.

Spencer, a former People's National Party (PNP) Member of Parliament for North East St Elizabeth and his former assistant were accused of taking funds for the distribution of energy-saving light bulbs.

The bulbs were given to Jamaica as a gift from the Cuban government to commence 'The Cuban Light Bulb Project' in 2006.
