'Contender' returns to tv

'Wray and Nephew Contender' officially kicked off its season last Wednesday and already gave Jamaican boxing fans a reason to celebrate.

Jamaica's Sakima Mullings secured the first victory in the competition against Guyana's Revlon Lake.

The event, which continues tonight, was well attended and received support from local celebrities like Christopher Martin, Voicemail, Omari, among others. Even internationally renowned footballer Ricardo 'Bibi' Gardener was in the building cheering for his favourite boxer.

Patrons who played the games were so absorbed in the action on screen, that they mirrored the actions that were soon to be displayed in the ring during the actual 'Contender' match.

There was also a performance by Shady Squad, who had patrons at the edge of their seats as they performed an energetic medley of Vybz Kartel songs, as the group leader Matthew led his dance crew wearing a yellow prison jumper suit.
