Taxpayer Registration Number continues to be free

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reminding the public that there is no cost associated with the application and or processing of a Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) and that the service is offered free to the public.

The administration said rumours are circulating that effective tomorrow, TAJ will begin charging a fee of $6,000 for the processing of a TRN. There is no truth to the rumour, a TAJ release said, adding that applying for a TRN is now and will continue to be provided at no cost to the public.

"Recently, we have seen an increase in the number of persons applying for a TRN. This is due to the introduction of the new government health card, which requires individuals to have a TRN to apply for the health card to access government health services," the release said. "It is therefore very important that individuals are reminded of the requirements for applying for a TRN, which is produced at no cost to the applicant."
