The scene of a shooting incident at Payless Car Mart, off Half-Way Tree Road, St Andrew. - Errol Crosby

Traffic had to be diverted from the usually busy Maxfield Avenue to Queens Avenue in St Andrew, following the shooting death of a manager at a car mart along the busy corridor, yesterday morning.

The incident, which took place mere metres away from the Half-Way Tree Police Station and the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, resulted in the death of 41-year-old Robert Mendez of Judith Avenue in St Catherine.

It is understood that shortly after 8 a.m., two men entered Payless Car Mart, located near the intersection of Cargill and Maxfield avenues, posing as customers. The men looked at vehicles in the car lot before making their way into Mendez's office where they fatally shot him.

The police were subsequently summoned to the scene, where his body was discovered crouched in his chair.

No motive has so far been established for the killing and an investigation has been launched into the incident.
