Let's Go Blue - Sandals Foundation brings 5K Fun Run, after-party to Ochi

Going green is great, but going blue will be much more fun this Labour Day weekend when the Sandals Foundation stages its first-ever Streak It Blue.

Set for Ocho Rios on May 24, Streak It Blue promises two distinct experiences; an exciting 5k Fun Run and a sizzling after-party at Sandals Grande Riviera's exclusive Ochi Beach Club.

The 5k Run, which will see participants dressed and accessorised in all things blue, will kick off at 7 a.m., at the Ochi Beach Club on Main Street.

Participants will make their way to the Ocho Rios Bypass, turn right on to Evelyn Street, make a U-turn by the Ocho Rios Police Station, and then head back to the resort via the bypass.

after-party

The all-inclusive after-party will feature the hottest international and local deejays, premium liquor and decadent food, and will get under way at 3 p.m., at the Ochi Beach Club. The party is not only open to the 5k participants, but to the general public as well.

President of the Sandals Foundation Adam Stewart said Streak It Blue is the perfect marriage of two events. "We are very excited about this event. This is the first event of its kind for the town of Ocho Rios and we're topping it off with an amazing after-party at the Beach Club. It's a stunning venue and we're bringing in the best DJs, great food, and unlimited premium drinks. And best of all, it's for a wonderful cause."

Tickets cost $3,000 for the 5k only, $6,500 for the 5k and after-party and $6,500 for the party only. A special rate of $5,500 each (Run and party) is being extended to groups of 12 or more.

The Sandals Foundation is also making a special appeal for individuals or companies to sponsor a child to participate in the event. The rate for children (10-17 years old) is US$30 or JMD $3,210 each. The children will have their own version of an after-party with bounce-a-bouts, popcorn, hot dogs, cotton candy and ice cream at the Beach Club. This will end at 11 a.m.

in aid of SCI

Proceeds are in aid of the SickKids Caribbean Initiative (SCI) which works to improve outcomes for children affected by cancers and serious blood disorders in the Caribbean. The initiative allows medical professionals in the Caribbean to connect with SickKids oncologists and haematologists in Canada, to collaborate on treatment options.

Since the launch of the SCI in February 2013, the Sandals Foundation has donated CAD$250,000 to the initiative.
