Crystal Harrison, Staff Reporter

In an initiative to provide training opportunities, the Portmore Self-help Disability Organisation (PSDO) is appealing to persons with disabilities to attend an information session next Tuesday, April 8.

The project is in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and The Human Employment and Resource Training Trust/National Training Agency (HEART/NTA).

Persons living with disabilities in St Catherine between the ages of 18 and 36 can attend the information session at the Portmore Heart Academy between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Star understands that the information session will lead to training sessions in consumer electronics, digital animation, customer service, and food preparation.

Founder and president of the PSDO, Bridgette Johnson, said that she is inviting persons to come out and make use of the opportunity.

"This project is for persons with all types of disabilities to empower themselves. We are anticipating a great turnout from persons and we are encouraging them to walk with their TRN and their NIS. Our organisation is for St Catherine and its environs and we have monthly meetings, workshops, and field trips that one could be a part of. We also offer counselling for persons with disabilities. I can be contacted at 437-1837," Johnson told The Star.
