Man convicted for conveying agricultural produce

Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

Hugh Williamson of Linstead, St Catherine, was fined $20,000 or 10 days in prison when he appeared in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Williamson, who pleaded guilty to conveying agricultural produce, was sentenced by Resident Magistrate Vaughn Smith.

The court heard that in October last year, members of the Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) were on duty along Fletcher's Avenue in Linstead, St Catherine, when they signalled a vehicle driven by Williamson to stop.

It was searched and agricultural goods such as tomatoes, onions and other produce were discovered.

The police claimed that he failed to adequately inform them as to how he came in possession of the items that were in his vehicle.

He was subsequently taken into custody.
