Beaten Grace Shield finalists Jamaica College (JC) and Wolmer's made winning starts to the inaugural ISSA/Digicel Urban Twenty20 competition after registering solid wins against Jonathan Grant and Kingston College (KC), respectively.

JC got the better of their Spanish Town-based counterparts by eight wickets, while Wolmer's notched a 44-run win over Kingston College in Group Two action.

Both matches were played at KC.

In the first game, which was reduced to nine overs due to pitch problems, Jonathan Grant batted first and made 63 for seven.

Akeem Gordon led the way with 23 not out against Jason Tapper and Gyasi Falconer, who each claimed two for 12.

JC, in response, posted 64 for two off 7.1 overs, with opener Romario Tomlin 20 not out and Courtney Dowdie, 15, scoring most runs.

"I think we did well under the circumstances, as we were without our captain," said Dennis Miller, coach of JC.

"I think our true test, however, will come in our second game against Wolmer's."

The feature game saw Wolmer's batting first and posting a massive 202 for four. Sadique Henry, with the competition's first century, 101 off 50 balls, spearheaded the charge for Wolmer's, with Malik Thompson, 30, providing support.

KC, in reply, were then restricted to 158 for seven with Oshane Wright, 32, and Shavar Christie, 12, putting up most resistance.

Suwayne Morrison and Amir Dalley, with two wickets each, topped Wolmer's bowling.

The competition will continue today with another Group Two double header at the Spanish Town Prison Oval. JC and Wolmer's will square off at 10 a.m., while at 2 p.m. Jonathan Grant will entertain KC.

The competition is divided into two groups of four teams, with each playing the other on a round-robin basis. The group winners at the end are slated to contest the final.
