Men under murder investigation freed

The Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday ruled that two men held in custody in relation to a double murder investigation in West Kingston be freed.

They are Lanchester Coke and Micheal Coke.

Resident Magistrate Georgiana Fraser turned down an attempt made by Flying Squad detectives to further detain the men.

The deputy superintendent at the Flying Squad said, "Your honour, we have not been able to charge the men despite our investigation having progressed ... We are mindful of the rights of these individuals, however, we are also mindful of the persons who were affected."

RM Fraser however, reminded them that on Tuesday police requested three extra days or the men would be released. RM Fraser said, "In the case of the men in custody not being charged, they are to be released forthwith."

Both men, believed to be members of the Young Generation gang from west Kingston, were detained after a persons of interest list was released by the police following the April 4 fatal shooting.

Twelve-year-old Kawayne McAnuff and Ricardo Lowe, 30, were killed when gunmen opened fire on a group of people on Bread Lane. Nine other persons were injured in the incident.
