Man on fraud charge granted bail

Constable Jermaine Satchwell, 27, who has been charged with illegal possession of device, illegal possession of ammunition and forgery, plead guilty to the offences when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday.

Meanwhile, his common-law spouse Sophia Johnson, who has been charged with illegal possession of device was offered $100,000 bail.

The matter is set for mention on May 19, when Satchwell is to be sentenced.

Allegations are that on March 7, the police, acting on information, went to search a premises occupied by both accused when 13 (5.56mm) cartridges and seven (9mm) cartridges were found.

The court heard that the 9mm cartridges were in excess of what is lawfully issued to Satchwell.

It is reported that other items found at the premises included debit cards, a Florida driver's licence, blank cheque leaves, a magnetic card reader, a laptop and US$2,000 (J$218,845).

Attorney-at-law C.J. Mitchell represents both Satchwell and Johnson.
