Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A motorist whose vehicle killed a woman along Old Harbour Road in Spanish Town, St Catherine, two months ago was granted bail in the sum of $250,000 when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Dead is Yvonne Brown, 48-year-old from Spanish Town.

When the accused, Christopher Clarke, appeared in court, his lawyer, Donovan Williams, made a successful bail application on his behalf. The lawyer told the court that his client is not a flight risk and that he had showed remorse by taking the injured party to seek medical attention, and that he will attend court to clear his name.

Bail was subsequently granted on condition that Clarke surrender his travel documents. He returns to court on June 24, 2014.

The allegations are that on March 16, 2014 about 6:45 p.m., Clarke was driving a Nissan XTrail sport utility vehicle towards Spanish Town. He was in the process of overtaking another vehicle when he collided with an oncoming motorcycle.

Brown, who was the pillion passenger on the motorcycle, sustained multiple injuries after been hit from the bike. She was subsequently taken to the Spanish Town Hospital by Clarke. She succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.

An investigation was conducted by the St Catherine North Traffic Department which resulted in Clarke being charged for Brown's death.
