Policemen face court for stealing money

Two policemen charged for stealing money from a house they searched will appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court today.

The cops, identified as Constable Molcary Robinson and District Constable Clevan Heavens, were arrested by detectives attached to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on Wednesday and charged with larceny from the dwelling.

The men, who are from the St James Police Division, were arrested following a ruling from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Information received is that on Thursday, April 17, both officers allegedly went to the premises of a man, in Rose Mount Heights, St James, and ransacked the house. A sum of money was reportedly found along with equipment used to make movies.

The occupant was then taken into custody under the Copyright Act, but was later released. However, the money was not returned.

A report was made to the ACB and a subsequent investigation launched, following which the officers were arrested.
