Student victims turn on robber

Decide to fight back during robbery

Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

A St Catherine man who was held by students whom he had earlier robbed of their personal possession and cash was remanded when he appeared in the Linstead Resident Magistrate Court.

He is Barrington Morgan of Lucky Valley District, St Catherine.

When the case was called up, a lawyer made an unsuccessful bail application.

He told Resident Magistrate Vaughn Smith that the accused will turn up for his court hearing.

Bail was, however, denied after it was borne out that the accused man had committed the act against students while they were on their way from the Dinthill Technical High School.

It is alleged that early last month, three students were walking home when the accused and another man who wore handkerchiefs over their heads robbed them of cell phones, money and other personal possessions.

Escaped

Having observed that the accused man was only armed with a knife, the children held on to him, and with the assistance of passers-by, handed him over to the police. His accomplice escaped.

He was subsequently arrested and charged by Constable Orlando Smith with robbery with aggravation.

The matter will again be mentioned on May 14.
