Two accused of attempting to rob cabbie denied bail

The bail application for two men charged with attempting to rob a taxi driver was turned down on Friday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Charged with attempted robbery are Nicholas Carr and Edwin Williams.

Both accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court was told that on April 26, 2014, about 1:50 a.m., both men, while posing as passengers, attempted to rob the cabbie.

Allegations are that Williams used his hands to grab the driver's neck, while Carr used a scissors to stick up the driver.

The court heard that during the process, the complainant saw a security team passing and alerted them to what was happening in the vehicle.

Reports are that the security personnel assisted the cabbie by removing the men from his vehicle and handed them over to the police.

During the court proceedings, it was unearthed that Williams had a previous conviction for robbery, and that the complainant was receiving death threats.

Both men were further remanded and are to return to court on May 12.
