Higgler faces court for destroying glasses

A trial date has been set in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court for a matter involving two higglers, one accused of destroying a pair of sunglasses in a dispute in downtown Kingston recently.

Peter Walters, 44, of Greenwich Town, Kingston 13, has been charged with malicious destruction of property and assault at common-law.

The matter is to go on trial on June 6, as the accused has denied the allegations.

Allegations are that on April 26, the complainant was packing out shoes and other items for sale at Ray Ray Ground, in the vicinity of West Street, when the accused walked up to the woman and demanded her sunglasses.

The court heard that when Walters' demand was not met, he held on to the complainant from behind, in an effort to get the shades, and tore the woman's blouse.

The matter was reported to the police and Walters was arrested.
