Sophia Brown wins Lifetime Achievement Award 2014 Linkage Awards

Singer Sophia Brown is delighted and honoured at being awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Linkage Awards, held in Bronx, New York, Saturday, May 3.

The reggae singer was also nominated for two other awards and performed during the ceremony that recognises the talents of disc jockeys and entertainers in the reggae and dancehall industry.

Brown was nominated alongside luminaries such as Lady Saw and Tessanne Chin for the award of Female Recording Artiste of the Year, as well as Female Vocalist of the Year, respectively. Though she didn't win, Brown was thrilled.

"I'm so excited," she said after collecting her award that recognised her contribution to reggae music for more than two decades.

"It's been a long time coming. Working in the industry for so many years, to be honoured for that, is something that I have waited for. I have been nominated for so many awards over the years and never won but, as they say, the race is not for the swift but for those who can go the distance, and I have proven, over time, that I can definitely do that."

The singer, who recently released the single, Touch Me, also extended gratitude to all who helped her achieve her career goals.

"I want to thank the Musicmecka team for never giving up on me; my family who saw me at my best and also in moments when I was at my lowest, but were always there to cheer me on. my fans, thank you for your continuous support."

She also thanked media for continuous support. "Media houses, how could I ever forget you. thank you, all so much, I truly appreciate all the support over the years."

Brown, who recently recorded a single, We're Lovers, with Los Angeles-based artiste Black Ice, is set to shoot a music video for the single before embarking on a month-long tour of the United States.

Dubbed the 'Catch Me if You Can Tour', the singer will perform at cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, New Orleans and Chicago.
