Social enquiry report ordered for accused thief

A social enquiry report was ordered in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, in a matter involving a man who allegedly made off with several thousand dollars worth of high end cell phones and a laptop.

Jovan Thomas, a gardener employed to a courier service, has been charged with storeroom breaking and malicious destruction of property. The charge was later dropped.

The court heard that, on April 13 sometime between 9:00 -9:30 a.m., the accused went on the roof of a storeroom at the courier agency and gained entry. He allegedly removed 67 high-end cell phones and one laptop, all valued at $600,000.

Thomas was also caught on camera.

It was revealed in court that the accused gave his relatives phones and, when they enquired of their source, he told them he had been given them to sell.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey subsequently ordered that the social enquiry report be completed on May 21.
