22 arrested during lottery scam raid

As members of the Lottery Scam Task Force continue their drive to curb the illicit activity, 22 persons were arrested during raids in Westmoreland on Sunday for their alleged involvement in lottery scamming.

A release from the police's Corporate Communication Unit (CCU) said the task force, assisted by members of Mobile Reserve and the Westmoreland Division, carried out simultaneous predawn operations in the communities of Cornwall Mountain, Belvedere, Lambs River, Petersfield, Shrewsbury, Carawina, and Waterworks, all in Westmoreland.

Paraphernalia used in lottery scamming, to include several high-end electronic devices and lead sheets, as well as two motor cars - a Toyota Corolla and a Honda Airwave - and a ballistic vest were seized at various locations, the release said.

Those arrested, 18 males and four females, will be questioned in the presence of their lawyers in the coming week, with a view of laying formal charges.
