For someone who spends her life giving to others, being on the receiving end can come as quite a surprise. This was especially true for Annmarie Richards - who has fostered more than 52 children to date - who received an unexpected Mother's Day treat courtesy of Digicel on Sunday.

With the help of one of Richards' daughters, Patricia Barnett, the telecoms leader made the journey to May Pen, Clarendon, to set up a surprise brunch for the matriarch and her family.

Barnett explained that she, along with other members of the family, really wanted to do something special for Mother's Day. "We all wanted to do something really special for her on Mother's Day. After all, she has done so much for us, but we simply didn't have the resources. I was so happy when Digicel contacted us, saying that they wanted to do something for her. We had no idea that this was what they were going to do, so most of this is a surprise even for the rest of us," said Barnett.

Richards, caught completely off-guard, was moved to tears, saying, "That's how I know God is real! Look at this, a big company like Digicel has recognised me and has done all this just for me. I had no idea that any of this was going to happen, and I feel really special."

Marketing operations manager for Digicel, Jacqueline Edwards-Locke, said, "I am truly happy to be here today - to finally meet this extraordinary lady who has touched the lives of so many. It's truly a humbling experience to be able to give something back to someone who has given one of the most priceless gifts to a child - a loving home based on good Christian principles and a mother to guide and protect them until they are old enough to take care of themselves."
