Motorist to stand trial for manslaughter
Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A motorist who caused the death of a pedal cyclist four years ago is to stand trial in the St Catherine Circuit Court on September 16.

Emile Atkins, labourer, of Old Harbour, St Catherine, is charged in connection with the death of James Baker, 40, of Nightingale Grove, St Catherine.

When the matter came up in the St Catherine Circuit Court, Atkins' bail was extended.

Allegations are that he was driving his motor car along the Nightingale Grove main road when Baker was hit from his pedal cycle.

He later succumbed to injury.

Investigation by Corporal Nigel Mullings of the St Catherine South Traffic Department resulted in Atkins being charged with vehicular manslaughter.
