Vybz Kartel might be languishing behind bars, but his fans will be celebrating his music this week at an event called Strictly Addi.

One of the promoters of the event, Marc Hines, said he toyed around with the party idea with his partner Gabrielle Curling for years, but the idea didn't materialise until recently.

"It's an idea that I thought about two to three years ago. We always talked about it, but the day we heard he got incarcerated we decided to do a party celebrating his music," Hinds said, noting that the event that will held at Club Privilege today.

"The concept is a party celebrating Vybz Kartel's music and contribution to dancehall. We are doing it for the fans of dancehall and the fans of music. We want them to come out and enjoy themselves and listen to Vybz Kartel throughout the night."

He said the plan was to play strictly Vybz Kartel songs for the entire night, but the disc jocks, ZJ Chrome and Chromatic, said this was not completely feasible.

Nonetheless, he said "it will be 95 per cent Vybz Kartel songs and collaborations."

Hines also promised songs from other 'Gaza' members as well. He said there will also be songs from lyrical wars Vybz Kartel had with Mavado, Assassin and Adonia, as well as songs he may have done with them .

With Vybz Kartel serving a life sentence for murder, Hines said he is aware that there will be persons objecting to Strictly Addi.

"You will have persons saying we are celebrating a murderer, but we are celebrating his persona Vybz Kartel which is the artiste," Hines said.
