Man fined for hitting minor off bicycle

A man accused of hitting a minor off his bicycle was fined when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is Steve Ferguson.

The court heard that on the day in question, Ferguson allegedly hit the 17-year-old complainant off his bicycle causing him to bruise his elbow and left side.

"He stole something from me and I confront him. It was about three weeks after," the accused said.

"You saw him riding?" Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey interjected.

"Yes, I work in a bicycle shop, Miss, and him and him friend always come in there and thief things," Ferguson answered.

The complainant later revealed that it was his friend who stole the item from the accused.

After issuing a stern warning to the complainant about being mindful of the company he keeps, RM Pusey ordered Ferguson to pay a fine of $25,000 or serve six months in prison.
