With Brazil beating Croatia yesterday in the opening match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, several Jamaican entertainers believe the host country will be victorious in the end.
Brazil defeated Croatia 3-1 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. There was much excitement in the stadium as the match took place, somewhat taking attention away from the anti-World Cup protests that have plagued the country leading up to the start of the tournament.
And, with Jamaica being a generally pro-Brazil country, it is no surprise that Jamaican entertainers support the Brazilian team.
Dancehall artiste Kalado is no different.
"My prediction is that Brazil is gonna take it home and Brazil and Argentina will meet in the finals. Brazil a my side weh mi a carry from long time. Dem talented, especially Neymar, is a special player dat," he told THE WEEKEND STAR.
While Kabaka Pyramid is a German supporter, he says he believes Brazil will take the top spot.
"Mi a predict a Brazil/Germany finals. I see Brazil winning 2-1. It's Neymar's year, and the country needs that victory fi beat all the things weh a gwaan inna the country. I am a Germany supporter from '94, but mi feel like a Brazil. And mi feel like Messi a guh get the golden boot, either him or Neymar," Kabaka said.
Claiming to also be a footballer, selector Boom Boom is rooting for Brazil.
"A England a my team...Mi waan England win the World Cup but that is impossible. So Brazil a guh win the World Cup, Spain a guh come second and Argentina a guh come third," he said.
"Over the last three years, Brazil a play some good football and the yute dem weh a play fi Brazil a the yute dem weh play football inna the streets. Dem get back dem original coach weh dem win couple trophy wid before, and dem (Brazil) a host it, so it a guh hard fi beat dem."
Another big Brazilian supporter is Omari, who says the top spot will go to either Brazil, Netherlands or Germany.
"I am a Brazilian fan, so naturally, I will carry Brazil. The two other teams will give Brazil some competition as they did very well in the last World Cup and they are still very young and strong," he said.
The lone female in the lot, Spice, says while she is not a regular watcher of the game, she also sees Brazil in the finals.
"Mi nuh really know a lot about football, but is a Brazil/Germany finals mi a predict. I am not a huge fan of football but when I do watch mi think a deh so it deh," she told THE WEEKEND STAR.
Although Wayne Marshall sees Brazil in the finals, he believes Argentina will be the winner.
"I see an Argentina/Brazil finals. I think Lionel Messi has something to prove and I think he has a good enough squad to take it all the way," he said.
The FIFA World Cup continues today with Mexico versus Cameroon, Spain versus Netherlands and Chile versus Australia.
