Four charged for counterfeit US

The Morant Bay police have slapped charges on four of six persons held with a large quantity of counterfeit US notes on Monday.

Booked to face the Morant Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on June 25 are Shaya-Gay Needham, 23, from May Pen, Clarendon; Shorna-Kay Smith, 24, from Kingston; Trevor Russel, 33, from Montego Bay, St James and Simone Gammon, 47, from St Ann. The two other persons held were released.

THE WEEKEND STAR understands that all six were travelling in rented motor cars when they were intercepted.

Reports said police, acting on information, intercepted a grey Toyota motor car in Yallahs with three persons on board and search the vehicle. A large quantity of counterfeit US dollar notes were found. The police later intercepted a Nissan motor car in Morant Bay where a similar discovery was made.

The police said all the US$50 notes had the same serial number and it was a similar state for the US$20 notes. The police declined to disclose the amount of cash found in the cars.
