Higgler faces court for chain theft
Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

The case of a St James man accused of stealing two gold chains from another man will be mentioned in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on July 1.

Higgler Christopher Mitchell, 20, from Albion Lane in Montego Bay, is charged with larceny from the person, where it is alleged that on May 31, he robbed the male complainant of two gold chains along Church Street, breaking one of the chains in the process.

It is further alleged that after a report was made to the police, Mitchell was held and taken to the Montego Bay Police Station, where he was arrested and charged after a chain that was found on his person was matched to a piece of the complainant's chain that had been broken.

Mitchell's attorney Martyn Thomas said his client had bought the chains that were found on his person.

"He (Mitchell) informs me that he had purchased these chains. He denies the allegations, and he is anxious to have his matter heard by the court," lawyer Thomas told Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie, who set the matter for July.
