DEON GREEN, Star writer

The police in St Thomas will sign an inaugural memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Neighbourhood Watches across the parish. The Mou is aimed at crime prevention and boosting community safety.

Assistant Superintendent of Police with responsibility for Community Safety and Security in St Thomas St George Jackson told The Star that the MOU stands as a mutual agreement between the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Neighbourhood Watches.

The aim of the agreement includes enabling the police and the neighbourhood watches to establish effective communication procedures and channels for information exchange regarding matters of concern to community safety and security; allowing both entities to cooperate with each other to develop and implement strategies to enhance the safety and security of the community; allowing both parties to be able to provide information regarding suspected individuals, delinquents, or associates, as well as regarding their modus operandi related to violence and crime.

The signing takes place on Saturday at the Anglican Church Hall, Morant Bay, at 10 a.m. Fifteen neighbourhood watches have already indicated that they will be among the signatories.
