Acid thrower gets nine months in prison

A woman who threatened another female that she would turn her into a monkey, was sentenced to nine months in prison in a cross case in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Debbie Simms, who was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, is accused of dousing Lenora Robinson with acid. Robinson, who was charged with unlawful wounding, is accused of stabbing Simms in her neck.

The two, who live in the same yard, got into a dispute after it was alleged that Robinson changed a padlock to a gate that they both shared.

Simms was sent to prison; however, Robinson was fined $15,000 or six months in prison.

"Your honour, she always a war with people who she claim a look her man, but I found the gate lock, and she stab me, and mi fling a bottle at her," Simms said.

However, Robinson told the court that Simms threw acid in her face, and she has been seriously injured.

"Your honour, di doctor first said that the liquid that she fling at me was gas, and it went into my lungs. But she also threw something in my face, and my nose started to melt. And it was the police who carried me to the hospital," Robinson said.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, who saw the evidence of Robinson's injuries, said Simms has been before her courts before. Robinson's spouse told the court he was threatened by Simms.

"Your honour, she said she gonna turn her (Robinson) inna monkey, and she said dat she gonna burn me up, to," the man said.

"You are gonna get a touch of prison this time," RM Pusey told Simms.
