Inmate accused of attacking prisoner returns to court

An inmate who was sentenced to six months' imprisonment on Thursday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court returned the following day to answer to charges stemming from the beating of another inmate at the lock-up.

Charged with assault is Nicholas Miles.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence and gave the court an explanation.

Miles said, "Your Honour, while we in the bull pen him come to me in a feminine style and try to touch me ... so him touch after me and mi ease him off ... mi nuh beat him up, your honour. More people did in deh, plus a yesterday mi get sentence, so mi wouldn't do that ... ."

The court was told the complainant suffered a burst mouth, a bruised elbow, and a burst head during the assault.

The matter was sent to trial and will be heard on Wednesday.
