Would-be phone robbers caught

Two men were hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, after they were apprehended for robbing a high-end cell phone from a complainant.

Charged with robbery with aggravation are 21-year-old Owen McFarlane, who pleaded guilty and Marvin Black, who pleaded not guilty. He was ordered fingerprinted and will face trial on July 23.

The court was told that on the day of the incident, both men held up and robbed a man of a Samsung Galaxy cell phone valued at US$290.

The court was further told that at the time the complainant was robbed, both men allegedly wrestled with him before relieving him of the device.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey fined McFarlane $25,000 or six months in prison. Black is to return to court later this month.
