One man has been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of Payless Motors manager, Robert Mendez.

He has been identified as 42-year-old John Jarrett, otherwise known as 'Tucker' of Balcombe Drive, Kingston 11. He has been charged with conspiracy to murder, robbery with aggravation and illegal possession of a firearm.

He is to make an appearance before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on July 14.

A second man was held somewhere in Canada in connection with the murder, however, head of the Major Investigation Task Force (MIT), Senior Superintendent of Police Michael Phipps, declined to give the location.

Phipps mentioned that the accused was held in collaboration with police personnel overseas and faces immigration breaches.

The superintendent said he is awaiting the outcome of a hearing overseas that is to be held with the accused man and that steps will be taken to have him brought back to the island.

The forty-one-year-old Robert Mendez, was shot dead on April 1 by two men who posed as customers at Payless Car Mart on Maxfield Avenue, in St Andrew.

The attack was captured on closed circuit television and showed the manager slouched in his chair afterwards.

A firearm was taken from Mendez.

The video has also made the rounds on Facebook, YouTube and other social media sites.

Phipps has thanked the public for coming forward with information.
