Man fined for selling bootlegged DVDs

A St Catherine man who was caught selling bootlegged DVDs was fined a total of $175,000 in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court recently.

The man, Marcus Johnson of Spanish Town St Catherine, pleaded guilty for having seven of the items in his possession.

When he appeared before Resident Magistrate Lyle Armstrong he was advised that he could have been fined a total of $100,000 on each count or two years' imprisonment

He was subsequently fined $25,000 or 30 days on each count.

The court heard that the accused was held by undercover police personnel while he sold the DVDs.

He was then charged with breaches of the Copyright Act.

Johnson was not represented by an attorney when he appeared in court.
