Accused clothes thief gets bail extension

A man who claimed that he stole a bag containing clothing, among other items, that looked suspicious is to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court in August for sentencing.

Anthony Adams, whose bail was extended, is to return to court on August 11 with $20,000 to refund the complainant.

He is charged with simple larceny.

Allegations are that on the day in question, the complainant locked away her items, however, she later reported that they went missing and the contents were found in Adam's possession.

Adams told the court that he found the bag in a lane. "Your honour, I was passing after hours and saw a bag that looked suspicious," he said.

The accused also confessed to the court that he sold some of the items, but he denied that they valued $20,000.

However RM Pusey told Adams that if he hadn't interfered with the items, he wouldn't be responsible for the stolen content.
