Trial continues for mother of 13-y-o prostitute

Another mention date has been set in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court in the matter involving Audrey Gordon, who is accused of prostituting her 13-year-old child.

She is to return to court on August 7 and remains on $100,000 bail.

The 42-year-old domestic helper has been charged with human trafficking, cruelty to a child, living off the earnings of prostitution, failure to provide care for a child and failure to secure education for a child.

The Crown continues to allege that Gordon and her daughter were cast into the streets by the mother's boyfriend, forcing them to live in abandoned buildings and to beg food from strangers.

The 13-year-old, who is the complainant in the matter, subsequently formed relationships with three different men.

The child would be picked up by them and taken to undisclosed locations where they would have sex with her.

They would give her money, which she would then give to her mother, after informing her that she had slept with them.

The minor reported that sometimes when the men came to pick her up, her mother would speak to them and allow her to leave with them knowing that they were taking her to have sex.

On May 21, a concerned citizen reported the matter to the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse and the accused was arrested and charged.
