St Lucian remanded for cocaine

A St Lucian national was remanded when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday after he was found with a quantity of cocaine.

Charged with possession of dealing in, importing, and conspiracy to import cocaine is 32-year-old Johan Kervin Makaska Joseph of Babameau, St Lucia.

According to reports, on July 10 at about 12:10 p.m., Joseph arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport on a Caribbean Airlines flight from Trinidad.

He was stopped, interviewed and searched due to his inconsistent answers.

Joseph was taken to the Narcotics Office, where a sample of his urine was requested and is tested positive for cocaine contamination.

He later confessed to ingesting cocaine pellets and was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was examined and admitted.

Joseph later expelled 69 cocaine pellets weighing one-and-half pounds.

He is to return to court for mention on July 23.
