Five arrested in gang-related activities

Police attached to the Organised Crime Investigation Division, Area 3 Headquarters, St Elizabeth Division, Caribbean Search Centre and Mobile Reserve arrested five members affiliated with the Up and Live gang, that operates out of Crooks Bottom, Elderslie, St. Elizabeth, on Wednesday.

The arrests are the latest in an ongoing police crackdown against persons who participate in gang-related activities.

Charged with breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act 2013 are:

29-year-old Stacey Ann Bowen

27-year-old Preston Bowen

21-year-old Nickolas Mullings

21-year-old Kayniea Bryan

A 16-year-old female

Information received is that the team conducted an operation in the parish, during which two flash drives, several sheets of paper containing names and addresses of persons living overseas, along with several money transfer receipts, were found.

A grey 2005 Honda CRV and several cellular phones were also seized. The occupants - Prestan and Stacey-Ann Bowen, Mullings, Bryan, and the 16-year-old - were taken into police custody and later charged.

Preston Bowen, Nickolas Mullings and Kayniea Bryan are to appear before the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday, July 24.

Meanwhile, Stacey-Ann Bowen and the 16-year-old were offered bail in the sum of $300,000 and $100,000, respectively.

Police say they are again warning criminals to desist from participating in lottery-scamming activities, as they will be caught, and can be imprisoned for a term of up to 20 years.
