Multiple charges for Half-Way Tree madman

André Williams, STAR Writer

The man of unsound mind who allegedly disarmed a policeman in Half-Way Tree on Sunday, and then fired wildly injuring two civilians, is now facing multiple charges, a senior officer has confirmed.

THE STAR understands that it is expected that investigators will formally charge the accused man in short order.

Superintendent Clive Blair told THE STAR, "He is to be charged during the course of today (yesterday)."

When asked about the state of the injured civilians, he said, "They are still being treated at hospital, however, their injuries are not considered life threatening."

The accused man is to be charged with illegal possession of firearm among other charges.

Our news team was also told that the incident is still under investigation.

Sunday's shooting incident sent scores of people scampering for cover as shots rang out in the vicinity of the clock in Half-Way Tree about 2:15 p.m.

When the shooting ended, three persons, including a woman who was clutching a child, and two men believed to be of unsound mind, were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
