Rickey Teetz rises to the top

Dancehall/reggae artisteRickeyTeetzhas emerged as one of the top dancehall prospects in the industry in 2014.

He recently changed his image, choosing to colour his hair blonde, and he has begun sporting more flamboyant dancehall fashions.

"The people dem love the new image that mi give them on Sumfest, is just a difference, because people see how my music a grow and they are amazed by the transformation. Is like dem say 'mi ready fi the road now, Rickey Teetz ready fi him spot'. The fans dem see me as a real artiste now," he said.

Over the past week, he made a much-talked-about appearance on CVM TV's 'Onstage', and he was featured on IRIE FM's 'The Buzz', two of Jamaica's premier entertainment programmes.

Recently, he landed the biggest gig of his career, thrilling the crowd at Dancehall Night at Reggae Sumfest. RickeyTeetzhas carved out a niche for himself in the dancehall with his high-impact songs such as the socially conscious Lighters Up. He also has songs that cater to the seamier side of life, such as the girls' favourite, 630 Walk, and the high-energy anthem, Tip Yuh, which has generated more than 400,000 spins on YouTube.

The songs that have endeared him to the masses are the socially conscious singles Poverty Life, 1000 Blocks and radio-friendly Lighters Up, which has also done well in the Caribbean.
